The Path of Least Resistance

By

Eric Bruni

There’s a lot being made of a Connecticut church’s supposed exorcism of a 16 year old youth from his ‘homosexual demons’.  Now I am not familiar with the church or it’s doctrines but it’s not the actions of said church that are REALLY alarming me.  It’s the attitude of the rest of society any time demons are brought up.

You see, there is a real danger in the world’s overall view of the demonic realm.  They simply don’t believe it’s real.  After all, we live in a world of science and pride.  We are all too mature and intellectual to believe in such drivel.  The idea of demons and their influence went out after the middle ages, right?  So why does the matter keep coming up?

Let the ‘Hate Crimes’ calls begin.

This issue has very rapidly moved into the ‘attacking homosexuals’ section of the media store.   Robin McHaelin, the executive director of True Colors, which is an advocacy group for gay youths, has been quoted as saying "I think it's horrifying”, "What saddens me is the people that are doing this think they are doing something in the kid's best interests, when in fact they're murdering his spirit.".

Murdering his spirit.  Hmm.

There you have it. Those dirty, no good Christians are at it again, going and killing people’s spirit.

That coming from the secular world doesn’t surprise me at all.  What surprises me is the church’s apparent lack of belief.  Many who profess to be Christians, and I do mean many, have completely succumbed to the world’s views in certain aspects of their faith.  One of these being the realm of the supernatural, especially, involving demons.   The church has given in to the ‘boogey man’ mentality that surrounds these matters, usually because they either think it makes them look ridiculous or they simply don’t want to believe it’s true.  This is a dangerous, dangerous, road to be walking down brothers and sisters.  There are two BIG problems with that rationale.

NO SATAN, NO PROBLEM

There’s a well known quote, and I don’t know who said it but it certainly is a good one.  It went something like this “The greatest victory Satan ever won was convincing the world he isn’t real.” Never were truer words spoken.  If there’s no Satan then there’s no sin and you have no need of a savior.  It’s really rather simple.  Satan couldn’t care less if you don’t believe in him. In fact he prefers it that way.  You become easier to manipulate because you never realize you are under attack.  And that’s just the way he likes it.  He knows that ultimately you’ll be sharing a long eternity together, so who cares if you believe in him?

Don’t fall into this pit of deception.  When Satan is mentioned these days, people think of the hoofed monster or the cartoon guy on the can of Deviled Ham.  He loves when you think that because it makes the concept of him ridiculous and if you believe in such things you in turn are ridiculous as well.

Satan is very real I assure you.  Just read the news today or go to work or go to the store.  You can feel the evil that is permeating our society.  It’s everywhere.  And if you don’t feel it…..there’s a problem, especially, if you are a Christian.  It means that you have a spiritual discernment issue and the enemy is going to hit at that.  This you can be sure of.

A belief in Satan means we have a real enemy who wants to destroy us and ignorance of that fact will get you into a lot of trouble.  Christians should be especially aware of this enemy and be taking the necessary precautions. Daily you should be asking for the Holy Spirit to guide and protect you from “the fiery darts of the devil” and to “put on the whole armor of God”.  God sees Satan as real and you should too.  To do any less is doubt, and that brings me to the second problem.

JESUS AGKNOWLEDGED DEMONIC POSESSION

Do you believe in demons?

Do you believe in demonic oppression?

Do you believe in demonic possession?

Do you believe that we are told that we will cast out demons in the Lord’s name?

If you said no to any of these questions, you have a problem and it could be that you aren’t saved.

Jesus acknowledged all of the above things and to believe that they are not real is to call Jesus Christ a liar and he can’t be a savior if he’s a liar.  It’s plain and simple.  If you don’t believe in those things you are not a Christian because Jesus clearly taught all of this and yet the church stands by while the world rejects such ‘preposterous’ beliefs and says NOTHING.  I am not saying that the above mentioned church was acting correctly, I am simply saying that to judge all demonic activity from one event or even a few is not intelligent.  Demons are real and they do possess people.

A good Christian has to be able to discern these things.  They should be handled carefully and by experienced and great men of God.  Releasing a person from demonic possession is something that is meant for mature Christians who have prepared thoroughly and should always be concluded with the acceptance of Christ into the life of the previously possessed person.

Doubt is the number one problem among Christians and non-believers.  It can keep you from becoming saved and can make your Christian walk stagnant.

The world doesn’t want to believe in evil.  It doesn’t want to believe in demons and the Devil.  It wants to blind and ignorant.  It wants to believe that I’m OK and you’re OK and that ‘goodness’ is an amoral issue that is different for every one.

We are not of the world.

We are not of lies.

We are not of ignorance.

We are of the narrow path, not the path of least resistance.

God Bless you all.
