EU's Solana: Blair will not negotiate peace

by Michael G. Mickey
(6-30-07)

Lately it's seemed that Tony Blair is on his way to becoming a major power broker in the Middle East as he prepares to take on his new job as Middle East envoy to the international Quartet of Russia, the United States, the United Nations and the European Union, but is he? One has to wonder after reading a MonstersandCritics.com article.

In the M & C article, European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana is quoted as saying Blair's role will not be that of a mediator for peace. Blair will instead, according to Solana, be tasked with channelling aid towards the construction of a Palestinian state - hardly what most of us believed was going to be the case.

At the very outset I observed, in some media coverage of Blair's new job, that Solana was feeling threatened by Blair's appointment to the position, fearing that Blair could have a negative influence on efforts that Solana has been undertaking in the region.

Is Javier Solana merely expressing his opinion on what Tony Blair's role is going to be in the quest for Middle East peace or have the powers that be in the Quartet decided to stick with the status quo group of Quartet diplomats assigned to creating the conditions that will, hypothetically, lead to the creation of a Palestinian state on Israel's covenant lands? The answer to that question remains to be seen.

In my 6-26-07 commentary, I raised the possibility that we were going to see a battle of European Union heavyweights ensue between EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana and Tony Blair. Only four days later, the first volley of fire has been launched by Mr. Solana. The question left to be answered is whether Solana was on target or is in for a surprise concerning Mr. Blair's ability to press the flesh on the issue of Middle East peace.

Regardless of what turns out to be the reality of the matter, we know that a prince (or leader) of Roman descent is ultimately going to confirm (or make strong) a covenant of peace in the Middle East seven precise years in length in fulfillment of Daniel 9:26-27.

With each new development in the seemingly never-ending quest to bring peace to the Middle East, we see the potential for Daniel's prophecy concerning the advent of the Antichrist to be fulfilled - an event which will be preceded by the Rapture of the Church and set into motion the dramatic events leading up to the battle of Armageddon and the visible, physical, bodily return of Jesus Christ our Lord!

This could get very interesting.
