The "Spirit of Peacemaking" Emerges in Madrid

by Michael G. Mickey

In yesterday's commentary, I indicated that, while I had no idea what of note, if anything, would come of meetings being held on the topic of the troubled Middle East in Madrid, Spain, I wouldn't be surprised at all if a "spirit of peacemaking" emerged from the event. Well, guess what? It appears as though it has. Imagine that!

According to a Middle East Online article, the Arab League and the European Union (EU) are joining what it refers to as a "Spanish call for new Middle East peace push."

Additionally, as seen in an Irish Examiner article, EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana is indicating that the EU, the revived Roman empire of Bible prophecy, "intends to go all out to try [and] reactivate the Middle East peace process in the first six months of this year."

Additionally, Solana is warning that it is crucial for the EU to do so before the United States enters its campaign period for the 2008 presidential elections.

Why do I personally believe Solana thinks it's so important for the European Union to get the ball rolling in the first six months of this year? I believe that he correctly assesses that the international community is far more prepared to accept the guidance of the ever-burgeoning European Union Beast in the making than to trust the U.S.A., which is presently hated almost as much as Israel is globally.

The bottom line is simple. Javier Solana knows the revived Roman empire needs to strike while the iron is hot in its favor where Middle East peacemaking is concerned as the party that can bring peace to the troubled Middle East is going to be a very, very big winner in any number of ways.

Brothers and sisters in Christ, a spirit of peacemaking has risen out of the Madrid peace conference which concluded today.

WHAT COULD THIS MEAN FOR US?

What is up next, potentially? As we see in the Middle East Online article linked above, Arab League Secretary-General Amr Mussa is calling for an "international conference for a peace settlement, this time with the United Nations."

Today in Madrid, Spain, as leaders from around the world commemorated the 15th anniversary of the landmark 1991 Madrid peace conference that brought Israelis and Arabs to the negotiating table for the first time which led to the signing of the Oslo Accords, a spirit of peacemaking emerged.

For a long, long time now, I've stated that I wasn't sure that peacemaking in the Middle East wasn't somehow going to take us back to the Oslo Accords, in one manner or another.

Almost a year ago, for example, I wrote the following:

Presently, the revived Roman empire of Bible prophecy, the European Union, is heavily involved in peacemaking efforts in the Middle East. Not only is the EU involved, there are three other world powers aiding them: the United States, Russia, and the United Nations. Could the highly publicized Quartet comprised of these four globally influential powers be the "many" the prophet Daniel foretold we'd see the Antichrist arise from among to confirm Middle East peace? Quite possibly, although I would never be so bold as to say so dogmatically.

Not only do we have the Quartet in existence, there is a seemingly failed peace covenant discussed often which had an original seven-year timeline, the Oslo Accords. Many people tell me Oslo, which was signed in 1993 and was to see a Palestinian state born in the year 2000, is a dead issue, but I continue to document that it remains a basis for future peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians to this very day, the most recent example being found in a Jerusalem Newswire commentary dated 2-21-06.

In the JN commentary, Jerusalem Newswire's Ryan Jones documents the results of a recent survey conducted by Jerusalem Media & Communication Center, one result of which found the Palestinians "are split on whether Hamas should even bother with the Oslo Accords." Does this indicate that the Oslo Accords are a dead issue? Hardly, leaving me to wonder if there is yet a chance that Oslo may play a role in the fulfillment of Bible prophecy.

Could it be that what didn't take place in the first attempt at implementing the Oslo Accords will take place in a second attempt? As we look at Daniel's prophecy detailing the advent of the Antichrist, it's interesting that we see the seven-year covenant will be 'confirmed' or be made strong. How do we 'confirm' peace covenants in these end times? We use peacekeepers, right? Again, I'm not being dogmatic in stating the Oslo Accords may form the basis for the fulfillment of Daniel's prophecy concerning the rise of Antichrist in the future.
If the prophesied Antichrist is alive and diplomatically active at this moment in human history, something wonderful may be at the very door for those of us who are longing to see our Lord and Savior face-to-face! What an exciting time to be a Christian!

Keep looking up, Christians, because I believe with all my heart we're soon going to be going up!

Praise the Lord! Our redemption draweth nigh!
